Reggie McKenzie the GM of the Oakland Raiders says he has been talking to Drew Rosenhaus about an contract extension for left defensive end Lamarr Houston; these talks have been going on for some time now.
Back in January Houston changed agents.
Lamarr Houston is on the final year of his rookie contract, and he could possibly be the Oakland Raiders best overall player.
He started in 2012 all 16 games, had four sacks and 69 tackles.
Last year Desmond Bryant got payed he’ll be looking to get more money then that.
Reggie McKenzie and Drew Rosenhaus should get a deal done soon, so Lamarr Houston will be a Raider for many more years to come.
Raiders made allot of 1 year type contracts this off-season that has payed off so far.
Rashad Jennings hasn’t put up huge numbers for the Oakland Raiders yet, but he did have a nice 28 yard run against the Jags he’ll also provide change of pace and might have to start if McFadden gets injuried again.
Jeron Mastrud has only had 1 catch for 41 yards he is a great blocker for the Raiders so far and has started because of the injury to David Ausberry.
Rookie TE Mychal Rivera leads all TE’s with 5 receptions and yards 58.
CB’s DJ Hayden (rookie), Mike Jenkins, and Tracy Porter seem to be a huge upgrade compared to last seasons group. Tracy Porter has also had 1.5 sacks this year.
Safety’s Charles Woodson and Usama Young have been also huge for Raiders secondary, Woodson has 9 tackles and Young has 1.5 sacks.
DE Jason Hunter leads the team in sacks 2, and is tied for second in tackles with 9.
Tony Pashos has already started the first two weeks even after just signing right before week 1.
LB’s Kevin Burnett and Nick Roach have also have contributed as-well.
A guy to look out for later on this year is rookie LB Sio Moore he will contribute with sacks too.
Lamarr Houston can show the world Monday night he is an elite pass rusher for the Oakland Raiders by sacking and pressuring Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
It should be much easier without left tackle Ryan Clady, but always remember that Manning gets rid of the football probably faster then anyone.
Houston as of right now don’t lead the team in sacks that belongs to the guy on the other side Jason Hunter which more then likely is getting his results because of Lamarr Houston.
On paper without Clady, Lamarr should have his way, again though Peyton has played with back-up tackles before and he’ll be as ready as possible.
This will be some thing of note come Monday night.
Terrelle Pryor got his first win against the Jaguars this past week, but it wasn’t as good statisticly as week 1, he did how ever cut down the turnovers.
The way he can build off of the win though is because he helped open up the running game for Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings which week 1 he was the one getting the rushing yards.
He needs to use Marcel Reece allot more though which that really isn’t on him, rather that falls on the Offensive Coordinator.
Even though the league seems to be a more pass friendly, that isn’t Terrelle Pryor’s game, they don’t need to force him to try to be that either, he needs to focus on not turning the ball over.
With less turnovers and good running the Raiders should stay in each game.
Around 200 yards passing and 50-75 yards running per game for Terrelle Pryor will produce some wins this year if the defense don’t play bad.
Raiders won’t be facing against Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady or there best pass rusher Von Miller.
This will be huge because the Oakland Raiders don’t have Jared Veldheer or Menelik Watson on the left side playing left tackle instead they’ll be playing Khalif Barnes again.
Now, Ryan Clady missing could be huge as-well for the Raiders because they are tied for the NFL lead in sacks (9.0 and 4.5 per game).
They still have to get to Peyton Manning though he’ll be looking to get rid of the football as fast as possible.
With all that said I’ll be looking to see if this has any kind of factor come Monday night.
Raiders are tied for sack lead and they also lead the league in team rushing.
Now, last season Raiders were last in both team stats.
They have 397 rushing yards and have 45 more yards then the next team which are the Philadelphia Eagles.
Raiders also have the most 20+ yard runs which they have 8, which they only had that many all of the 2012 NFL season.
Sacks they have 9 which they are tied with the 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs, 2-0 Miami Dolphins, and shockingly the 0-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Oakland Raiders sacked Andrew Luck 4 times in week 1 and Chad Henne 5 times in week 2.
This is huge for the team because 17 teams have 4 or less sacks this season.
Marcel Reece signed a three-year extension with Raiders that will keep him under contract through 2016.
The team announced it Friday.
Reece just last season had his first Pro Bowl season, he had 4.6 yards per rush, and 52 receptions for 496 yards.
Reported that the deal is worth more than $13 million, and has $7.2 million guaranteed which is the most guaranteed money ever for a fullback.
Marcel Reece is clearly part of the Raiders long term plans.
This makes him the highest paid fullback even over Mike Tolbert and Le’Ron McClain.
Reece the 28 year old fullback for his career has 107 receptions, 6 all-purpose TD’s, and averaging 4.8 yards per carry.
Also last season in the zone-blocking scheme Marcel Reece was the best running back on the team.
Mark Davis has been rumored to be why Terrelle Pryor is going to start week one.
Michael Silver of NFL.com is the man behind these rumors.
He appeared on NFL Network’s “Total Access” show Wednesday saying “skepticism inside Raiders” about Terrelle as the starting QB for the Oakland Raiders.
Goes on to say people inside Oakland Raiders organization thinks Matthew McGloin give the silver and black the best chance to win.
Terrelle Pryor was Al Davis’s last ever draft choice, would that be why Mark Davis wants Pryor to start?
No quarterback really blew the others away, but with a bad offensive line Pryor has to provide the best chance to win.
Matthew McGloin more then likely will be starting in Oakland before the season is over you can count on that.
Raiders have activated OT Matt McCants from practice squad following the injury to Menelik Watson.
They had to put Jared Veldheer on the IR return list to do so.
With only Khalif Barnes and just acquired Tony Pashos healthy he’ll have to provide depth for the Oakland Raiders banged up offensive line.
Alabama Birmingham Matt McCants had 42 starts over 47 games, mostly at left tackle.
Menelik Watson should be ready to go next week, but I expect Matt McCants to stay until Jared Veldheer returns unless McCants is just down right awful.
Oakland Raiders placed Left Tackle Jared Veldheer on the Reserve/Injured Designated for Return list.
What that means is Veldheer can return after the 8th week of the season.
The Raiders could not make this move official till week 1, and this was an expected moved after his injury.
Jared Veldheer is on his last year under contract for the Oakland Raiders.
